Steeped in symbolism, narrated by intimate voices from his evocative past and an appropriate dystopian aura of fear and loathing that has ruled Russia ever since the Bolshevik revolution; the film takes us through well documented, undisputed milestones that were influential throughout the tyrannical dictator's life.

From a sad, early, impactful childhood, KGB role in training East German agents, incredibly fortunate rise to power through Yeltsin, leveraging his craftwork abilities and connections, ties to the shady criminal underworld and lust for unyielding power and rule over the world's most powerful gangster state governed masterfully through a precarious balance of blackmail, bribes, radioactive isotopes, lies, corruption and window tossing of adversaries; this is a memorable depiction of the dictator's ruinous drive and rise through sheer devilish, steadfast brutality.

It's an impressive work of art that is worth seeing by those unfamiliar with Russian history post fall of the iron curtain as well as those of us Europeans very familiar with all of these incidents; it brings an interesting, fresh cinematic perspective to historic events that have crowned Putin as the new blood-thirsty and power hungry Peter the Great on a blind, raging singular quest to regain Russia's empirical past glory. This gritty, tense laden portrayal of a dictator rising and homage to the extensive, brooding body of participation in the devil's work for a commendably lengthy time on the throne of a new interpretation of the Russian dystopian empire well into the 21st century would make any of the world's darkest figures in history proud. Any dictator would be publicly shaming but secretly admiring this portrayal of rise to the top of the Russian hellish, war drum machine. There will never be another Putin and this film certainly feeds the fascination of the drives that drove him to the most powerful adversarial seat against America. It's a wild, storied celebration of a maniacal feat and one of if not the largest accumulations of wealth in our lifetimes. This rise came from dark psychological drives, incredible fortune and the order of fear and loathing that is Russia and masterful maneuvering within that make Putin the Peter the Great of our time.
